Christmukah Day 1: OLIBERTÉ

On the first day of Christmukah yourKloset presents to thee…OLIBERTÉ!

Based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada (therefore proudly Canadian), OLIBERTÉ is the very first international footwear company to work exclusively in Africa producing premium casual shoes for the global market.  With just one customer order in late 2009, the company was launched and has experienced rapid international growth (now available across North America, Europe, Oman and Japan).

Although not a non-profit organization, OLIBERTÉ is dedicated to “fair play” for people, places and the environment:

  • With equitable pay on all levels for products and services
  • Only working in African countries and factories that believe in making quality footwear and provide their employees with additional benefits (ie. maternity leave, health and life insurance, etc)
  • Respecting the Company’s eco-footprint by using natural leather and rubber and working with factories and tanneries that meet strict environmental standards.

Currently OLIBERTÉ operates in Ethiopia, Liberia and Kenya with the goal of expansion to a few other African nations.

As for the quality, OLIBERTÉ is second to none, proudly outlining their recipe to a quality premium shoe as the use of: natural rubber crepe soles which allows the company to avoid using toxic equipment and chemicals and increase the versatility of the shoe; hand picked leathers to assure high standards; 100 % goat leather lining (super soft); reverse leather backing; the art of shoemaking with some hand-stitching involved in the finishing; and finally, 1000 stitches in every shoe, meaning less glue and more reinforcement. Limited in styles but big on original colors and color ways, OLIBERTÉ definitely enhances your personal style.

Their dedication to maintaining a small carbon footprint is further seen in their 3 way shipping initiative which means that once you have enjoyed your OLIBERTÉ’s, if you can’t donate or reuse them, they will take back the shoes and recycle them. Now how’s that for a conscious company?

Trendspotted by such premium style guides as Trendhunter.com, Hypebeast.com and ThaFreshman.com, it is no wonder why such savvy and chill celebs such as Snoop Dogg, George Stroumboulopoulos, Kristen Stewart, Edward Norton, and Juliette Lewis all sport OLIBERTÉ footwear. Pride. Power. Liberty. This is Africa. This is OLIBERTÉ .

Now a pair of these can be yours! OLIBERTÉ and yourKloset are happy to give away a pair of men’s shoes (retail value $139) and a pair of women’s shoes (retail value $115) to the persons who answer the following question correctly:

Name one of the four African nations where OLIBERTÉ plans to expand to.

Your answer should be a comment in the ‘Be Heard’  section at the bottom of this post (all right answers will be considered). Make sure you are eligible (read our rules and regulations) and good luck! Click here for the info and check out their online store to pick your favourite.
