Denis Gagnon exhibits at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Utterly breathtaking. Denis Gagnon Shows All exhibition in the Contemporary Art Square at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was simply that. Open to the public and free of charge, this spectacular exhibition beginning today October 19 and ending February 13 2011, is a commemoration of his 10th anniversary in business. A premier for the MMFA, the Lac Saint-Jean native is the first Quebec couturier to present his artwork in such a fashion. Amid the realm of French fashion elite, Gagnon follows Yves Saint Laurent and precedes Jean-Paul Gauthier to showcase his body of work.

Denis Gagnon’s creations which are nothing short of an artistic expression, were displayed in a captivating setting designed by award-winning architect Gilles Saucier. With a central focus on an inverted pyramid projecting a video montage of his fashion in motion, some fifteen garments are hung from the ceiling showcasing a retrospective of his decade-long career.  The showstoppers were dresses confected in an intricate embellishment of gold and black zippers and the hand-dyed fringe creations designed with lace and leather. An emotional resonance is experienced at the sight of these works of art that are purely elegant and rebelliously beautiful.

As mentioned in a previous article, his collaboration with BEDO and a special celebration honoured by Fashion Television, this exhibition is one of several events to contribute to the commercial viability to La Maison Denis Gagnon. The magazine Urbania is set to publish a special issue devoted to Mr. Gagnon. Furthermore, he’ll be closing Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 which you can view live on U-Stream this Friday, October 22 at 7pm.

For his artistic eye, audacious finesse and integral fashion sense, this exhibition is a must see for all aficionados of art.
