NYFW! Charlotte Ronson & Zac Posen

Charlotte Ronson

If any of you out there have been denying the strong resurgence of 90′s grunge that has been slowly spreading, take a look at Charlotte Ronson’s S/S 2011 collection and I promise, you’ll come to your senses. Littered with floor-length jersey knits, distressed denim, plaid, and many a sock paired with a sandal, it was obvious that Ms. Ronson has been watching many a re-run of My So Called Life and Freaks and Geeks to garner her inspiration. Now, I’m all for the 90′s Renaissance that has been seeping into our culture for the past couple years. In fact, though I did feel her collection was slightly underwhelming as a runway show, that isn’t to say I didn’t want to take home every knit, beanie, and floor length floral. I just hope that fall 2011 will see Charlotte Ronson thinking just a little bit outside of the “Boho-Grunge” box.

Z-Spoke by Zac Posen
When I hear the name Zac Posen, I’m reminded of a time in the early 2000′s, when this adorable, little curly haired man would design equally adorable and ultra-chic cocktail dresses for the elite of Young Hollywood. Since those early days, Posen’s brand has been focused on more of a, shall we say…”mature” audience. That is, his clientele aged a few decades, influencing the direction his namesake brand went. Enter Z-Spoke by Zac Posen. A young, flirtatious collection, in it’s debut season, intended as a foray back into the younger retail market. With a colour palette that ranges from burnt orange to canary yellow, and everything from denim pant suits to chic, flowing cocktail dresses, the Z-Spoke girl is not afraid to be loud and proud. Though it has not inspired me to trade in my generally all-black, grey, and neutral wardrobe, it is nice to see this fresh-faced, once oh so adored, Posen return to the younger side of the hill.

Until then…
