Words, words, words…

We use so many words every day and we don’t even think about their power. A common word for us might have a very important emotional value for someone else or, on the other hand, an important word for us might mean nothing to someone else…

When I was young, while at a birthday party, my friend’s mom told me I was “wild”. I hated it. I felt so bad and it made such a big impact on me that I still remember it to this day. Recently I had asked my friend about it, and, with the most relaxed attitude, she replied that her mom was calling everyone “wild”. Her mom was using this word so frequently that it had lost its meaning for her. For me, on the other hand, the meaning was still strong and that’s the reason why I was so upset by it. However, when my friend explained, it changed my perspective and I didn’t resent it anymore, I just took it as an experience.

Some words can make us feel like a million bucks, some others could really hurt while some would leave us indifferent even if they should have an emotional value.  A mean word that we remember after a long time, a caring word that makes us feel like we can move mountains or maybe a promise that we don’t even take into consideration. Sometimes we don’t even realize the true power of words until we see the effects…
