Bond is back baby

It seems that every few years, the appeal of the wrist gadget comes back, mostly inspired by the always Kool man in tux, Bond, James Bond. This year, two of the biggest mobile phone makers have added a watch phone to their product list. LG announced their LG GD910 in January and it was finally on the shelves by end of August 2009.

The LG GD910 is a quad band mobile (yes, it works in Canada). However, since only the 2100MHz band is used for 3G (no 3G in Canada, so no video calling), it will be a little slow if you want to use it as a mobile modem. You can still connect it via bluetooth to your laptop and get connectivity at dial-up speeds, yet compared to how fast you could surf in Europe… well, you’d better drop the comparison.

After playing with it for about 2 days, you’ll have a really hard time taking it off!! If it’s set on vibrate (which most people have it set on), you’ll never miss a call again. While in meetings, you only need to glance at your watch to see who’s calling. Answering a call can be done via the hands free speaker (which will attract lots of attention!!!!) or via a bluetooth headset. The sound quality of the speaker will blow you away as it is much better then the iPhone speaker. You can actually have a regular conversation while driving a convertible car. The mic is also very sensitive, so on your first few calls, you might be told to stop shouting repeatedly.

Don’t expect the same array of bells and whistles as you would expect on a regular smartphone because it’s not designed for that! What you do get, though, is a very Kool mobile phone that fits on your wrist. For the gadget lover, the LG GD910 is available for about $1300 unlocked and ready for use on Rogers and Fido. Enjoy!!!
