Aki Suokas – FlyNano

Icarus didn’t have what it takes to make it to the sun and neither will you if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on the FlyNano, however you’ll have some fantastic experiences in short increments. The FlyNano was just launched at Aero 2011 in Friedrichshafen – Germany, and the orders are pouring in for the 70Kg, single seater, water landing, thrill filled contraption.

The man responsible for this light weight flyer is Aki Suokas and it’s been 10 years in the making. For now there are 3 models, out of which 2 are gas powered and one is electric. It’s a good thing FlyNano’s amphibious given that its maximum range is of about 70Km which translates into approximately 30 minutes of fun at around 140Km/h and going as high as 12,000 feet. Yet, it’s doubtful that you’ll often fly above 1,500 feet given the limited power and range.

This little toy is not for everyone, however if you have a flat strip of water around you, the fun you can have would be incredible. Skimming the water surface at over 140Km/h is the closest you can get to growing wings. The FlyNano goes for about 40,000$ including the hitch trailer to move it around.
