November HIP HOP

Nottz is one of those producers that the average hip hop fan might not know by name, but once you start listing the classics he’s produced, they are like, oh he produced that song? For real? Yeah, for real, he did.

Well it seems as of late that Nottz has been busy as a mofo, with three projects released in the span of a few months. So be prepared to read all about Nottz, since this post is all about his projects!

That being said…. Let’s first get into Nottz’s baby, his first solo album that was just released October 26th. Nottz holds his own as a rapper – not many producers can actually say that – and the album features appearances by fellow rappers Snoop Dogg, Royce da 5’9″, Asher Roth, Kardinal Offishall, Little Brother, Joell Ortiz, and Black Milk. This album, filled with hard, crisp drums and soulful melodies, really is one of the best produced albums I’ve heard in a while, some seriously flawless production. Standout cuts include “Fair Warning,” “How Long Will It Last,” “Never Caught Slippin,” “Shine So Brite,” and “Right Here.” You can preview and buy the album on iTunes.

Also, check out the new Rah Digga album, Classic, produced entirely by Super Producer Nottz. Packed with crunchy drums & dope baselines, she really spits some heat over the production and makes this an album worth checking out. It’s been ten years since Digga’s first album, Dirty Harriet, but it was worth the wait. Standout cuts include “The Book of Rashia,” “Who Gonna Check Me Boo,” “Solidified,” and “You Got It.” You can preview and order the album on iTunes. In an era when it sometimes seems the only female representation is Nicki Minaj (not a diss to Nicki cause she CAN spit) it’s good to hear that Rah Digga is back on her game. Speaking of female MCs, I also can’t wait for Jean Grae to give us an album (hopefully soon!).

Also on the horizon is yet another project from Nottz, a collab with Asher Roth. It’s an EP titled The Rawth. They have released one track so far, “Enforce The Law,” and you can check that out here. No official release date has been given yet, but word is that it will be dropping sometime soon… So def keep your eyes open for that.

Next is a mixtape/project that I did with Nottz and released last week, called Nottz Blends. Nottz blends features all Nottz productions (new and old) with various acapellas mixed on them. I’ve selected a mix of established artists and up and comers to mix on here and the end result is really dope. Featuring too many artists to name them all, here’s just a few: Nas, Andre 3000, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Big K.R.I.T., Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Cyhi Da Prynce and much more.

Check out the mixtape at EscapeMTL.ca.

‘Till next time, I’m out!!!
