Bal en Blanc 17- Montreal’s White Party
The much anticipated, let alone the largest electronic music event in Canada, Bal en Blanc, took place in Montreal this past Easter weekend. Over 15,000 people dressed in white, and danced into the day to celebrate life and music. The event included 2 rooms; the Trance room and the Main room. The trance room was headlined by such legends as Sander van Doorn, Above and Beyond & Markus Shulz. The main room included superstars such as Tiesto, Avicii, Hardwell and Armand Van Helden.
Anytime Tiesto shows up for a performance, you can be certain the crowd will be treated to something special. Tiesto performed an unusual 3.5 hour set yet managed to play an amazing mix of his 20 years of incendiary music. His show’s are like none other, bringing together his personal light show, laser, video screen and special FX, and of course his massive catalog of music. They all come together to make up the Tiesto experience. Tiesto got to play a lot of his new music given that his much anticipated “Club Life, Volume One Las Vegas Album” was just released a few weeks ago.
The up and coming Swedish DJ producer Tim Berg AKA Avicii followed Tiesto and fed the crowd all of his new hits. The twenty one year old DJ attended is first Bal en Blanc, and after experiencing his performance something tells me he will be back soon. Markus Schultz attended BEB for a second straight year, keeping the crowd dancing until late morning, even after 2 back to back incredible sets from Sander van Doorn & the british trance group Above and Beyond.
Finishing off the night right were 2 home grown talents, Sultan and Ned Shepard, famous for their monster track Call My Name. The 2 boys from Montreal played the main stage till noon, until all those who were still there (survivors!) were forced to go home.
After all said an done, another Bal en Blanc is in the books, can’t wait to see what is in store for the 18th edition of this infamous Montreal white party.
