The Amazing Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner
Do you find yourself having to buy three or four different cleaners to clean your bathroom, kitchen, etc.? Do you find that even the non-”green” ones are fairly expensive? Well, the truth is that you don’t need all those different sprays. And they’re actually quite harmful to our children, our pets, and us. The good news is that you can create your own multi-purpose cleaner that works in every room (and on all surfaces), plus it is super cheap to make, it lasts for quite some time and it’s just as effective! And it is so “green” that you can actually drink it (although it probably wouldn’t taste very good).
Here’s the recipe:
1 industrial spray bottle ($5 at Canadian Tire)
1/3 (of said spray bottle) white vinegar
1 cup lemon juice (or your favourite essential oil for a personalized scent)
2 tbsp baking soda (this will make t fizz, so you should make it in the sink)
Fill bottle with water
Remember, that even those cleaners that claim they are sustainable are not. They are still filled with chemical and companies like Clorox still test their products on animals. Since the main ingredient is vinegar, it has an incredibly high alcohol content that enables it kill just as much bacteria as bleach. A study was done some years back in England where 2 hospitals were cleaned with one using a white vinegar solution, the other bleach. And guess what? The results were the same. Vinegar is just as effective. So ditch the expensive chemical cleaners and save money while reducing your impact.
