Stella McCartney for GapKids

Mini Me Looks

Love designer clothes, but hate designer prices?  Me too, so try this… buy kids clothes!  Combine XXL with Gaps generous sizing and you’ve got a whole new section to shop in.  Yup, 12 year old kids have really beefed up over the years, yet their fashion sense has improved tremendously!

I admit that this shopping rule does not work for everyone, but it’s oh so satisfying when it can be pulled off!

Out now in select stores is the Stella McCartney for GapKids and babyGap.  This is McCartney’s first-ever children’s collection and consists of 70 “too-cool-for-pre-k” designer pieces at friendly Gap prices, from organic jeans to cashmere leggings.  McCartney has spread her design love before with past collaborative endeavors with Le Sportsac, H&M, and Adidas.   But the big difference here is the price point.  Kids clothes and shoes are way less expensive.  I guess it’s a bit like a kids meal; less food, less fabric equals lower costs.

Sure, there was no way I was going to try on the tulle tutus, but I was down with the Michael Jackson military-style jacket (which, at under $130, sold out fast) and the cashmere sweater with the intarsia leopard pattern (under $100) is an exact small-scale replica taken from a key dress in the designer’s Fall09 RTW namesake collection.  The navy wool peacoats and boys plaid shirts were also perfect for petite frames.

The best deal and my personal favs were by far the winter boots ($68) and the high-top sneakers in three colour ways ($48).  Haha… kicks ain’t just for kids, ya hear!  If you’re somewhere between a women’s size 7-8, you’re in luck!  Size 5 for kids is all you need!  And if you happen to have made yourself a mini-me, matching kicks are high suggested.

“It is possible to wear kids clothes and not look too childish.  The top is a size 14 and the hat is a Med/Large….scarf..no size!”
