Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

“I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress.”–Alexander McQueen

The late fashion designer, Alexander McQueen has left behind a legacy of ingenuity evidenced in his avant-garde collections and has influenced the industry to push boundaries and to challenge innovations in extreme ways.

It was with great anticipation to await the opening of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The exhibition chronicles McQueen’s collections by taking you on a magical tour through rooms that each featured a theme. But one central inspiration clearly captured in all of his collections is romanticism which is evidenced in the gothic, natural, Victorian, and mythological rooms of the tour.

Observing his work up close can be compared to a metaphysical experience – his extraordinary talent, designs, and intricate details are just out of this world.

“I want to be the purveyor of a certain silhouette or a way of cutting,so that when I’m dead and gone people will know that the twenty-first century was started by Alexander McQueen.”
