The Bay’s contemporary White Space

Not too long ago it would never have dawned on me to feed my fashion fix at the démodé department store The Bay. Pardon the frankness! Like Eaton’s and Simpsons, the outmoded Canadian retailer was becoming a distant memory. With declining sales and lackluster appeal, Bonnie Brooks from recent Lane Crawford fame was appointed President. Flash forward a couple of seasons and ta-da! Brooks ballzy bravado energized the nearly defunct commercial space. Situating the heritage retailer back onto the fashion landscape with the creation of style hubs the White Space and Toronto’s own swanky The Room, it now means The Bay is back!

The Montreal flagship store has designed a second-floor space, rightfully named the White Space, with its bright white walls creating a fashion focus for the contemporary clothing. Bridging the gap between high and low dressing, the White Space seems to be the cornerstone for the modern woman’s wardrobe. There’s a great gathering of international brands such has Rachel Roy Signature, Love Moschino, Armani Jeans, See by Chloe, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel and my personal fave, Halston Heritage. Canadian brands take center stage as well with Pink Tartan, Barbie by David Dixen, Edit by Jeanne Beker and québécois line Cluc Couture (whom the latter is participating in La Collection, a designer reality show sponsored by The Bay).

At the media cocktail event, Genevieve Borne (center) spokeswoman for Clin d’oeil magazine with, at her right, Director of the publication Michele Coulombe and the cast of La Collection, were present.

Well that does it, I’m newly converted and will definitely be getting my shop on at The Bay!
