The Top 10 Tips For A Healthy Summer of Fitness

I think it is very safe to say that those winter months are now behind us and shovelling snow is a distant memory. It’s time to take off that winter coat and get ready for summer!

Here are my top 10 tips to get your body in tip-top shape!

10) Change your exercise routine:

According to Consumer Reports, altering the way you exercise can slow down the aging process. When you switch routines you eliminate, or significantly reduce boredom, which will reduce the risk of injury caused by overuse of a particular muscle, joint or ligament. Try to do some aerobic activity 3-5 times a week for 20-30 minutes, and add some strength training twice a week.

9) Be the tortoise, not the hare:

Start your routine slowly, because if you start off too fast and go all out, you will definitely increase the chances of getting injured. Always listen to your body, and progress gradually.

8 ) Water: The fountain of Youth:

Hydration is absolutely essential for summer health. Make sure you are drinking water before, during, and after working out. When you are walking, running or playing sports with friends, you might not realize just how much you perspire and lose water. Drinking regular tap water is good when you are doing activities outdoors. It will definitely improve your game!

7) Sleeping can help:

Some people might not know this, but your body recovers and rebuilds itself during sleep. So make sure you give your body the rest it needs. Go for a power nap. Research shows that napping can lower your body stress levels, which can help heart health.

6) Exercise when the sun comes up:

Morning exercise is a great way to lose weight, as it helps speed up your metabolism. People who exercise in the morning also tend to stick to their routine better. Having A.M. workouts can also improve your sleep, which helps control certain hormones that affect your appetite.
