Grace Jones Style Icon

Move over Madonna and tell The Gaga to quietly take her seat as we all pay homage to the pioneer of Dare to be Different, Grace Jones.

Jamaican born model turned singer turned actress entered the world in May of 1965, and quickly began  causing quite the stir with her outlandish outfits and androgynous looks. Ms. Jones left her studies of the theater to grace (no pun intended) the catwalks of Paris and New York, before getting her first record deal with Island in 1977

Getting to the good stuff, the man mainly responsible for the dramatic androgynous look that spurred on the cross dressing movement of the 80s is stylist Jean-Paul Goude, with whom she had a son.  Ms. Jones  is also responsible for the high top, one of the hottest hair cuts in the 80s amongst African Americans.

Her Bare as you Dare inspired many, including the likes of Andy Warhol, who took her on as his muse and photographed her exclusively during the studio 54 days. From wired outfits and tribal paint Grace is never, and will never be, too afraid to take risks with her image. She will be copied by many, but the world will have only one Grace Jones. Lets take a look at her many moods, shall we?
