Green Street Hooligans

In the United Kingdom back in the late 1970’s, the phenomenon of football hooligans was born. It consisted of football fanatics (also known as the casuals) wearing expensive European designer clothing in order to avoid the attention of police. They didn’t wear clubs colors, so the infiltration of rival groups and pubs was facilitated. Between the 80s & the 90s, the effects of casual subcultures forced many clothing labels to withdraw designs in order to keep their image. In the 2000s, one of those brands still going strong amongst the casuals is “Stone Island”.

Stone Island

Stone Island is an Italian Designer brand based in Bolonga. Italian Designer Massimo Osti set up the label in 1982 as a secondary line or diffusion collection of his main C.P Company label. The brand was named after the name of his boat. The brand is known for specializing in surface treatment of fabrics and dyeing techniques.

A feature of a Stone Island garment is the compass patch that buttons onto the upper sleeve of the left arm. Originally the patches were green edged, badges from around the year 2000 onwards became black edged.

The brand offers a wide assortment of pieces ranging from coats & jackets, to fleece & knit wear to trousers & footwear. Here are some of the most interesting ones alongside a brief description:
