September Issue

It is that time of year when the weather starts to drop, we start covering up our limbs and magazines look like Encyclopedia Britannica’s. The “September issue” as it is called, and made even more famous by the same titled movie featuring Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, and her journey in completing the issue is the fashion world’s bible. So why only September and not May? September is the month when Fall/Winter goods start to appear in stores and people start to buy Back-to-School clothing. Also, fall goods are usually more expensive and heavier, like leather jackets, wool suits, and boots, so advertisers are willing to shell out more dough for ad space. It usually takes about 30 pages of advertisements before you get to the table of contents.  I find it a bit excessive, but hey everyone needs to make money (including myself).

I have been completely consumed with swUrl that I haven’t really had a chance to keep up with what’s going on in the world and even less times to scour the net for all the must haves for this fall. I luckily had a minute the other day on a Starbucks run to go and pick up GQ, Details, Complex, Nylon and Men’s Health; it felt like Christmas morning. I know I have said it before, but there is nothing like a magazine, flipping the pages and folding over interesting articles. Even though some of the magazines are now iPad/iPod ready, nothing beats the original. More recently, I have become a super geek, and leave pages in tact and actually write down the companies, the products and/or the website on my BlackBerry under the memo “CHECK IT OUT” (I am just a tad OCD).  I then spend hours looking all of them up.

Do you have any other magazines I should add to my repertoire? Or maybe agree that there should be more naked women in the ads than naked men? (Yes Dolce & Gabbana I am referring to you!)
