Giving Nautical the Nod, Without Going Overboard!

With everyone being beach-bound during the summer months, it’s no wonder that stripes, stars, and sails are on everyone’s mind, especially when they’re digging through their klosets. But sometimes, our nod to nautical ends in a sea-faring disaster: a woman going overboard!  To avoid wearing an outfit that looks like you’re about to jump aboard a ship with Captain Jack Sparrow at its helm, add an appropriate amount of nautical flare to your get-ups with these fantastic maritime-inspired wardrobe basics.

The braided wedge: Slip these puppies on with either a dress or jeans and you’ve got instant seagoing style.

A classically cut blazer: You’ll be ship-shape and bristol fashion when you wear this piece with a simple monotone shirt, and a skirt, trousers, or jeans.

Stripes: Careful how you sport stripes in your naval number, as horizontal stripes can make you look wider than you actually are.  However, if done correctly, stripes add the perfect amount of maritime pizzazz to your look.  Check out these stellar striped dresses and tops.

A simple button-down cardigan: Not only will this basic help you to fit in below decks, but it will also work with practically any other look you’re trying to pull off.  It’s really a must-have in your wardrobe!

Until next time! I’ll be seeing you shipside!
