These days it’s all about limited-edition, celebrity designed, collabo’s and break-through talent showcase.  For the past couple of years GAP has partnered with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund to support and encourage new American design talent and to introduce up-and-coming young designers to an international audience.  Past winners have re-invented the classic white shirt, but this year, the focus in on a unique reinterpretation of that 80’s classic…the Khaki.

Gap MOTO Trench

My past favorite winners include Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte) and Philip Lim (3.1 Philip Lim) but this year, out of the 13 peice collection, my coveted peice, hands down, is the Moto Trench by Alexander Wang.  When I left the flagship GAP store in Montreal at 10 :30am, there was narry a one to be found and at $94, this cool design is a steal.  I’ve heard that Wang will be using the same fabric and design in his own women’s collection….except that the price point may not be as  forgiving.

Gap Wide Brim Hat

Albertus Swanepoel’s hats totally modernize the use of Khaki.  Originally from South Africa, Albertus trained as a miliner and was an acclaimed designer under his Quartus Manna label.  I especially love his version of the ‘Wide Brim Hat’ which is perfect for the country, beach or city.  Paired with big sunglasses, you can practically forgo the sunscreen and evade the paparazzi!  All hats $44.50.

Vena Cava are Brooklyn-based designers, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai. They draw inspiration from  their own  vintage collections, found objects and art history.   Vena Cava’s  hand-drawn, signature prints are predominately featured along the neckline of the short sleeve dress. The beauty of this Khaki is the classic silhouette paired with the bold print, that frames the face.  But I’m also a sucker for anything with pockets!! Short Sleeve Dress also $94.

the GAP

You may seem to think that there’s a GAP on every other corner (you know, next to the millionth Starbucks), but this collection can only be found in flagship and top adult stores in Canada and the US.
